ASUU: FUT Minna resumes soon – official

The Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna on Monday said that it would announce resumption date after its Senate meeting on Feb. 13 on the academic calendar of the institution.

Mrs Lydia Legbo, Information Officer of the University made this known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the main campus, Gidan Kwano near Minna.

“It is true that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended the strike but we cannot just resume without plan.

“The most important thing is that we have also suspended the strike as directed by ASUU but I cannot tell you how our calendar will look like until after Wednesday meeting.

“There is going to be a special senate meeting and after we will let you know when we will resume normal academic activities,’’ she said.

Legbo said that the students would resume academic activities based on the decision of the management and senate, adding that “that will be very soon.’’

NAN reports that ASUU on Feb. 7 suspended its over three months strike and directed universities to resume academic work on Feb. 8 following agreement reached with the Federal Government.

The federal government and ASUU reached an agreement to implement the 2013 Memoranda of Understanding hence government agreed to release N25 billion between April and May this year as a sign of commitment.
